Animal Control Officer / Pound Keeper

The Rural Municipality of Dauphin has an immediate opening for the position of Animal Control Officer/Pound Keeper.  Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and/or By-Law Enforcement Officer this contract position will impound domestic animals and livestock, running at large or which have been observed in contravention of the current Animal Control By-Law. 

The successful Candidate must possess:  

  • Valid Class Five (5) Driver’s License, and proof of motor vehicle liability insurance
  • Ability to apprehend and confine any dog, domestic pet or livestock running at large within the municipality
  • Ability to provide truck/trailer, necessary equipment, handling facilities, sufficient food, clean water and adequate shelter for every animal impounded
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to keep detailed records of impounded animals
  • Ability to perform duties with a high level of professionalism in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required
